🌸 December Ritual & Journalling Prompts
Theme: The Quiet Turning
Before we step into December’s quiet turning, it’s worth remembering that this has been the Year of the Snake ~ a year of shedding skins, uncoiling truths, and meeting ourselves in deeper layers than we expected. Now, in this final month, the serpent completes her cycle… inviting you to release the last of what no longer fits and to soften into the renewal that’s been forming beneath every loss, every shift, every breath of becoming.
There is a hush inside this month… a soft settling of the soul.
The world hums with summer brightness, yet your inner world is drawing the curtains just enough for you to hear your own heartbeat again.
🌿 Ritual: Crossing the Inner Threshold
This ritual honours that feeling of standing between seasons within yourself ~ not fully in the old chapter, not yet in the new.
You’ll need:
A candle
A small bowl of earth, sand, or salt
A feather, leaf, or small stone
Optional: a grounding oil like black spruce, copaiba, or vetiver
Steps:
Sit somewhere quiet and place your items before you, creating a simple triangle.
Take three slow breaths and place your hand on your belly. Let everything inside you drop a little lower.
Light your candle and imagine the flame as the lantern guiding you through this inner doorway.
Pick up your feather/leaf/stone and hold it to your chest. Ask silently:
“What am I ready to leave on the other side of this year?”
Let whatever rises be enough. No analysing.Touch the object gently to the bowl of earth or salt, symbolising release into the ground.
Whisper:
“I honour what has shaped me. I soften into what now becomes.”Blow gently across the bowl as if sending the old season home.
Close the ritual by anointing your wrists or heart with a drop of grounding oil if you’re using one.
This ritual marks the turning without forcing clarity before it’s ready.
🌸 Journalling Prompts
A softer, slower way of listening to yourself this month…
~ Where am I standing between endings and beginnings?
~ What subtle shifts have been happening in me that deserve to be acknowledged?
~ What truth or desire has been whispering beneath the noise?
~ What would feel gentle to carry into the new year, and what feels heavy?
~ If my energy had a season right now, what would it be… and why?
Let each prompt be an exhale, not a task.
🌙 Optional Creative Practice: The Shedding Page
Instead of gathering items, this practice uses the page itself as your sacred space.
Open your journal to a blank page.
With a soft pencil or muted colour, draw slow, curved lines like the coils of a resting serpent.
Inside each curve, write one thing you’re releasing, one thing you’re softening into, or one thing you’re grateful for.
When you’re done, look at the page as a map of your own inner shedding.
Fold it and tuck it somewhere safe for the month ~ a reminder that transformation can be tender and unhurried.
Bless this month of soft release and subtle renewal.
Bless your tender strength.
Bless the quiet doorway you’re crossing, step by step, with the ancestors at your back.
